I have an old version of windows live messenger and now i want to install the new version. After downloading the setup file, i go on to start the setup but then it says unable to install. Please can anyone help me?

My Windows Live Messenger on my PC cannot retrieve offline message people send me. I can only see such offline message when I log on with another computer. I have checked the setup under Tools-Options-Messages. My PC has the same setup as the other computer that can get offline message. Both have the same version of Windows Live Messenger. I tried to change the setup from “show offline message automatically when I sign in” to “show a link to my offline messages in the central window”, yet none has changed.
I re-install the Windows Live Messenger on my PC, but the behavior doesn’t change. Anyone knows if I should change any other settings?
i don’t mean windows live i mean the new windows live beta because my old ones wont work with it e.g. sweetim. are they any good (the emoticons that you recommend)?
